A safe joint is more than a tool that turns. It is a driven fastener, a controller that decides when to stop, and a record that proves the job was done right. Atlas Copco builds every layer of that chain, and Middle East ABC supplies them together, so a plant does not have to piece the system together from different sources.
This guide walks through the four layers of a modern tightening setup, the questions to ask at each step, and the Atlas Copco product families that cover them.
1. Drive: the nutrunner
The driver is where torque is created. Pneumatic tools such as the Pistol Nutrunner LTP are reversible and built for accurate torque repeatability and high productivity. The rotary dial lets the operator change torque levels without changing the tool, which suits stations where several different assembly operations take place. The LTP61 HR1500-25 reaches up to 1100 ft-lb at a 7 bar working pressure.
Electric and cordless tools trade the air line for a cable or battery and give the controller direct control over every tightening. If your line needs documented results per bolt, an electric tool with a controller is usually the starting point.

2. Control: the controller
The controller runs the tightening strategy and decides when each joint is finished. POWER FOCUS 8 is built for battery, cable and fixtured tools. The compact unit weighs 11.4 kg and accepts 100-120 V or 200-240 V supply, so the same model fits workshops on either network.
Typical strategies are torque control, torque plus angle monitoring, and yield-point methods. Choosing one depends on the joint: a soft joint with a gasket behaves very differently from a hard steel-to-steel joint, and the controller is what lets you set the right limits for each.

3. Heavy bolting: hydraulic torque
Large flanges, wind-turbine towers and heavy industrial equipment need far more torque than a handheld nutrunner can deliver. Hydraulic torque wrenches are driven by a pump. The SP-700 pump delivers a maximum working pressure of 700 bar and weighs 34 kg, which makes it practical for continuous on-site and industrial work.
For this kind of job the wrench, the pump, the hoses and the reaction arm are chosen as one system, so match the pump pressure to the wrench rating before you order.

4. Prove: error-proofing and software
A tightened bolt is only half the story. Error-proofing solutions help the operator use the right tool, in the right order, on the right joint. Assembly software then records the result of each tightening so a plant can show exactly what happened on every unit it shipped.
That record matters for quality audits, warranty questions and continuous improvement. When a problem appears in the field, a traceable joint lets you find the affected units instead of recalling everything.

How to choose: five questions before you order
- What torque does the joint need? Check the bolt size and the specified tightening torque, then pick a tool whose range covers it comfortably.
- Air, cable or battery? Existing compressed air favours pneumatic tools. If you need per-bolt data, choose an electric tool with a controller.
- Do you need traceability? If a customer or auditor asks for tightening records, plan the controller and software together with the tool.
- What is the access like? Space around the bolt decides between a pistol, angle or inline tool and sometimes a fixtured solution.
- Who will maintain it? Ask about service, spare parts and calibration before the tool is on the line.
